Late January-- who misses baseball?

Thu Jan 24, 2008 at 04:58:29 PM PDT

In a diary today, there was a three-person minithread on baseball. It was wonderful to me to think about the national pastime again, and to think that we're only six to eight weeks away from that wonderful newspaper headline, "Pitchers and Catchers Reporting Today."

I love baseball. to me it has a wonderful tempo, and the rules, which set up nine innings, three outs per side, don't take time into consideration.

Music education for Kossacks-- a proposal

Sun Sep 02, 2007 at 03:40:21 PM PDT

I know at least one member of this nation (Caldonia) is aware of the father of Rhythm and Blues, Louis (pronounced luwee) Jordan.
Following in the path set by Unitary Moonbat, I want to try to introduce American artists that perhaps few have heard of, perhaps many (some will be quite famous, some will appear to be anecdotal) at least until i get tired of doing so.

what makes a good president?

Or maybe what makes a good candidate? I don't DISLIKE a one. I like, however, fewer.

A bunch of idiots

Now, I taught the weeping willow how to cry
And I showed the clouds how to cover up a clear, blue sky
And the tears that I cried for that millage are gonna flood you, big river,
and I'm gonna sit right here until I die (Johnny Cash)

If you've noticed, i haven't been around lately. I've been working on a school tax issue.

I lost.

On impeachment, or lack thereof, and histrionics

Sat Jul 14, 2007 at 03:03:35 PM PDT

This is, quite simply, an observation on the ability to impeach. It is not a diatribe on the relative intelligence of certain dailykos members, their ability to reason or lack of ability to reason, and their desire that hyperbole and passion override facts (okay, maybe it is.).

Protest music: Bring 'em home

Sat Jun 30, 2007 at 08:48:41 PM PDT

I recently discovered youtube, about 2 months ago (I know, where have I been?). I also have for years been collecting protest songs... always a contrarian, I suppose.

What's the point? I have found a wonderful song by Pete Seeger, made popular during Vietnam, that is just as salient today as it was then.

I wanted to share it with you. It's a great diary for a Saturday night, I think.

Please feel free to add your protest songs--I always wonder what people think of when they think of protest songs...

Dylan said it.

Just listen. It takes about seven (7) minutes.

I want my brothers and sisters home from Iraq. I also think it's trime for a break from here.

This community has grown and changed in the few years I have been here. I love that it has grown, but I haven't grown in the same way.

Wire it to them 'till nobody follows 'em

Baseball legend Buck O'Niel dies at 94

Sat Oct 07, 2006 at 08:30:55 AM PDT

Heard this on the news today, baseball legend Buck O'Niel died at 94.

Why write about a baseball player? O'Niel was a spokesman, an ambassador, and a charismatic and friendly man. He was the person who created the Negro League
Hall of Fame Museum in Kansas City.

And he is a reminder of the limits of opportunity that still exist in our nation.
